The beautiful Salzburg district Nonntal is located south of the left old town of Salzburg and is bordered to the east by the Eschenbach, to the north by the Salzburg Fortress Hill, to the west by the Fürstenallee and the Hans-Donnenberg-Park. The old suburb (the inner Nonntal) is part of the World Heritage Site of the city of Salzburg. Neighboring districts are Josefiau, Morzg and Riedenburg.

This charming, green residential district with history owes its name to the elevated medieval monastery of Nonnberg. The history of this monastery dates back to 715, when Salzburg's first bishop Rupert founded a women's monastery on the foothills of the fortress mountain. His niece became the first abbess and soon the servants of the monastery settled around the mountain. And so the Nonntal was born. Over the centuries, the suburb developed into a popular residential area, and even today it is a splendid place to live. Classical and modern dramas are shown in the Schauspielhaus, the ARGEkultur, Salzburg's largest cultural center, brings together contemporary art and culture in a unique way, and the Kunstverein organizes exhibitions of contemporary art. The extensive grounds of the Freisaal Green Zone include a botanical garden and Freisaal Castle. The family-friendly residential area in Salzburg is equipped with the best infrastructure and transport links.

Nature, culture and a great density of excellent cuisines in Nonntal

"If you live in Nonntal, you are only a tiny stone's throw away from the old town," enthuses Michael Denkstein. "And yet, with the Fortress Hill right on your doorstep and the many meadows and parks in the immediate vicinity, you are right in the middle of greenery. The Nonntal is the ideal starting point to start city walks. Via the Nonnberg, you can climb the fortress hill and enjoy the magnificent view of the city. Or you can walk out of town along Hellbrunner Allee towards Hellbrunn. There are endless possibilities - and the Leopoldskroner Weiher is also close by. But, not only nature is enjoyed here, but also culture - and the best food, such as at Restaurant Brunnauer, Paradoxon or Prosecco by Aigner. The density of excellent restaurants with excellent cuisine is great - also chic and hip cafes invite you to chat, enjoy and linger."

Nonntal is especially known as a school town, as it is home to various kindergartens, elementary schools, several high schools and the University of Salzburg. The central proximity to the old town offers city charm and the adjacent meadows, fields and the fortress mountain and Nonnberg guarantee local recreational value on the doorstep.
