Rif is a very small, family suburb of Salzburg, which loves it sporty, and is located in the northeast of the city area between the Königsseeache in the north, which also forms the border between the Flachgau and the Tennengau, and the Salzach in the east.
In terms of traffic, Rif is accessible from Salzburgerstrasse in the west, which connects Anif, the south of Salzburg, with the city center of Hallein, through Rifer Hauptstrasse. To the southwest runs Schlossallee, which leads south to the Rehhofsiedlung. A pedestrian footbridge leads across the Salzach to Urstein Castle and a second across the Königsseeache to Niederalm in Anif. Along the Salzach River, which forms the eastern boundary of the district, runs a towpath on which the Tauern Cycle Path runs.

In Rif befinden sich das Universitäts- und Landessportzentrum Salzburg und die Golfacademy Salzburg-Rif. Der Ruderverein Möve hat ein Bootshaus am Ufer der Salzach. Außerdem befinden sich hier die Anlagen des Tennisclubs Rif.
